Basingstoke Aquadrome staff become Dementia Friends
Our staff have recently taken part in Dementia Friends training, helping them to better support people living with dementia who use our centre.
Dementia Friends, an initiative from the Alzheimer’s Society, aims to raise awareness and improve understanding of what it’s like to live with dementia. The sessions were delivered by a local Dementia Friends Programme Trainer and covered topics such as recognising symptoms, good communication techniques, and simple ways to create a supportive and welcoming environment.
Becca McLean, Deputy Contract Manager for our centre, attended the training. She said:
“Our centres are important community hubs, so it’s vital that we make sure everyone feels welcome and supported. This training enables our staff to better understand the challenges faced by people living with dementia, allowing us to provide more compassionate and respectful care.
“Dementia affects an estimated 900,000 people in the UK and making public spaces dementia-friendly is an important step towards building truly inclusive communities.”
